A spokesperson for Southport Rescue said...
Our quads and UAS (drone) team were requested to launch by Holyhead Coastguard following reports of two females in difficulty in a wetland area located south of Shore Road, Ainsdale.
The 999 dispatcher, who was in communication with the casualties, had encouraged them to download the What3Words app to give an accurate location for SAR units. The two females were located by the National Police Air Service (NPAS) helicopter and guided off the beach with the help of the quads and Coastguard Rescue Teams from Southport and Crosby.
After the casualties were brought to safety, all units were stood down.
Our thanks goes to all those involved.

It's a great little app, I used it recently when I had a breakdown.
It would be great if the Sat Nav manufacturers integrated it into their systems.
